New Canadians are a vital and beautiful building block for our community - both culturally and economically. The Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF) recognized this almost 30 years ago, and has been working to welcome and serve this community since then. Working with many different local organizations, as well as government departments, LEF provides a wide range of services and experiences to members of the community.

From skills training in areas where there are local jobs, to counseling, employment services, and access to computers, LEF is the stepping stone for many people that leads the way to making a living and having a sense of purpose and belonging in their new home. But the involvement doesn't stop there - clients can also access LINC language classes, childcare centres, after-school programs, literacy classes and a community kitchen.

They also give back to the greater community through a partnership with Second Harvest, preparing 500 meals a day for agencies which support the homeless. Other partnerships include the Court's Diversionary Program, Pardons Canada, and York Early Years child care. LEF impacts people both directly and indirectly, allowing their work to regenerate and ripple through many lives and families.

LEF also provides self-employment training and support, including a monthly series called Networking at the Foundation which features a panel of speakers, free nutritious food, and lots of time for mingling and making connections.
